UPDATED: Grand 'opening' for Amazon lockers

Update 5 p.m. March 10: Amazon reps are scheduled to be outside the Memorial Union, on the north side (near Freeborn Hall), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday (March 11 and 12) for the grand "opening" of Amazon's delivery lockers (outside the MU, east side; and inside the ARC).

And speaking of Amazon orders, soon you’ll have a convenient new way to receive them — in 68 lockers that the giant online retailer is scheduled to install on campus this week.
Jason Lorgan, director of UC Davis Stores, who worked with Amazon to forge the first-of-its-kind deal, said the first payment (for October through December) will be split as follows: $40,000 to the students-helping-students organization We Are Aggie Pride, for textbook scholarships (to be awarded based on need); and $42,000 to help defray Memorial Union operating costs, thus freeing up cash for other student services and programs.
“We’re excited to tell our campus community how this new partnership is paying off,” Lorgan said. “When you start your shopping at davis.amazon.com, you’re helping our students.”
Now come the campus lockers, so, hopefully, you won’t have to worry anymore about what might happen to your package if you’re not home for the delivery.
Amazon plans to install two sets of lockers: at the Memorial Union (44 lockers outside, near the Tech Hub’s new location on the MU’s east side) and the Activities and Recreation Center (24 lockers inside, in the lounge next to the Pro Shop on the first floor).
The lockers should be operational by the end of the week. Then, when you’re checking out on Amazon, and enter a shipping address in the vicinity of UC Davis, Amazon will alert you that you can have your purchase shipped to a locker on campus.
Amazon also invites you to enter the locker location in your Amazon address book, so you can easily choose the same shipping address on future orders. Amazon gives each locker bank a name: It’s Becca at the MU and Claud at the ARC.
To be eligible for delivery to a locker, items must have been sold or fulfilled by Amazon. In addition, size and weight limits apply. After three days, if a delivery is not picked up, it will go back to Amazon — to free up lockers for other deliveries.
If you opt for delivery to a locker, you’ll be given the unique pickup code (by email or text message) that you’ll need to open the locker, by using the touchscreen computer display built into each bank of lockers. (Or you can scan the barcode that comes on your delivery notification email.)
