Graduate guides NBC guests at Olympics

The Winter Olympics? Graduate Jenna Bondlow has been there, done that. Now she’s focused on the Summer Olympics in London.

Bondlow, who earned a bachelor’s degree in design in 2012, will be escorting NBC’s high-profile clients to sports venues as part of the network’s hospitality program.

“It’s such a huge, exciting production with tons of people — the world is there,” said the Marin County resident.

Bondlow did an unpaid internship as a tour guide with NBC’s hospitality program at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010. For London, she’s been hired as a senior tour guide.

There through the closing ceremonies on Aug. 12, Bondlow will rub shoulders with Olympians and other celebrities as she escorts NBC’s guests to various facilities to watch the games.

“The job really teaches you to be on your toes and make quick decisions and be able to react to things that come up,” Bondlow said.

Bondlow’s parents were guests of NBC’s hospitality program at earlier Olympics and encouraged their children to apply for the program. Bondlow made arrangements for the 2010 internship with support from the Internship and Career Center at UC Davis.

In Vancouver, she most enjoyed watching men’s championship hockey and men’s half-pipe snowboarding. What Summer Olympics competition does she hope to witness? “I would love to see swimming,” said Bondlow, who participated in club water polo as a freshman at Davis and also swims and snowboards.

Bondlow’s brother, Connor, is with her in London. A graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, he also worked at the 2008 Games in Beijing and the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
